"She doesn't just treat Cerebral Palsy — she understands it in a way very few doctors ever could."
After earning her medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia and completing her pediatric neurology training at St. Louis Children's Hospital, Dr. Jan founded the Pediatric Neurology Cerebral Palsy Center
at Washington University School of Medicine in 1998.
She has been a tireless advocate: testifying before Congress to increase NIH funding for CP research, serving on the NIH Taskforce on Childhood Motor Disorders, and founding adaptive sports programs — including Camp Independence, a summer sports program for children with CP that continues today.
In 2007 she was named Outstanding Missourian of the Year. In 2014, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay proclaimed October 1st "Dr. Jan Brunstrom-Hernandez Day" in the city of St. Louis. She served on the board of the Child Neurology Foundation and is currently a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Cerebral Palsy Foundation.
In December 2014 she moved to Texas, where she founded 1CP Place — bringing her expertise, her heart, and her lived experience to the DFW community. Through this new practice, she has helped over 1000 families from across Texas, the United States, and around the world.
